One’s effort is one’s reward

Caereinion High School’s mission, our central purpose, is to provide a stimulating bilingual environment - one which fosters a high quality of educational excellence in which hard work is rewarded.

The school’s main aims are to :

  • • foster self-esteem and self-discipline and to develop a sense of pride and respect in one’s school and community;
  • • ensure, as far as possible, that each pupil fulfills his/her potential;
  • • encourage regular parental involvement by fostering open two-way communication between school and home;
  • • provide equality of opportunity for all pupils (academically, socially, linguistically and culturally) regardless of ability, gender or background;
  • • provide a happy, secure and caring environment in which learning is valued and encouraged;
  • • provide pupils with the skills necessary to fully participate in a rapidly changing modern society.

The second half term of the autumn term started with external exams for our Year 11 pupils. All Year 11 pupils sat two papers of the Numeracy GCSE and a number of pupils sat English Language. We trust that our pupils will be pleased with their results when they are announced in January.
This last week saw the publication of the Core Data Sets, a publication which confirms all GCSE results. We can proudly say that 70.6% of Caereinion pupils achieved 5 GCSE qualifications at C or above, including either English Language/Welsh Language (Mamiaith) and Maths. This result places us in the top 50% of similar schools. The results in the core subjects are all most promising, with a grade C or above gained by 82.4% in English, 87% in Welsh First Language, 82.4% in Science and 75.3% in either Maths or Numeracy. These are all most encouraging results and place us high on the Powys schools’ list.
Mr Gareth Griffiths and Year 10 Agriculture group had a most enjoyable time at Llysun farm on Friday. We are very grateful to the Tudor family for being so willing to welcome our pupils to their farm.
There have been several sporting victories. Congratulations to the small sided football team in Year 7 who became Powys champions on Thursday and to Year 9 who became runners up in their competition. Our under 16 netball team came third in the North Powys tournament.
It was pleasing to see so many parents of Year 7 and Year 12 students coming to school on Thursday evening to discuss students’ progress with their form tutors. I would also like to sincerely thank those of you who completed the questionnaires distributed on the evening.

HOCI BECHGYN / BOYS HOCKEY

Ddydd Mercher aeth tim dan 12 a dan 14 Caereinion i Drenewydd i gynrychioli’r ysgol yn nhwrnament Gogledd Powys. Daeth y tim dan 12 yn 2il, gyda dwy gem gyfartal ac ennill dwy gem. Daeth y tim dan 14 yn 3ydd. Profiad gwych i’r bechgyn. Diolch hefyd i Swav am gynorthwyo gyda’r trefniadau.

On Wednesday the under 12 and under 14’s boys hockey team travelled to Newtown to represent the school in the North Powys tournament. The under 12’s team came 2nd, by winning two games and drew 2 games. The under 14’s came 3rd. A fab experience and opportunity for the boys. Also a big thank you to Swav for his support.
