It is difficult to believe that once again school life has faced the challenges of inclement weather. As I am writing this, there is heavy snow on the ground and for the third time this winter, the school has been forced to close.
Last week, however, was a week unaffected by snow and ice. Year 7 managed to sit their examinations without any disturbances. They are to be warmly congratulated for their mature attitude to their exams and to their excellent behaviour. They responded very well to their first experience of internal, formal examinations.
As Year 7 finished their examinations, it was then Year 8’s turn to sit their internal examinations. Unfortunately the snow caused some disruption to Year 8’s examinations, but they have coped well with the unavoidable changes.
A number of our Year 13 pupils attended a law workshop in Welshpool on Friday, organised by the Seren Network, for more able and talented students in Wales. This workshop was a valuable opportunity to glean some information about law before they make a final decision as to their future field of study.
On Friday evening (March 16th), there was a wonderful opportunity to admire some beautiful prom and evening dresses at the PTA’s Fashion Show. One of our parents has recently opened My Wardrobe by Teresa Jayne in Welshpool, which stocks a wide range of prom and evening dresses. We are grateful to Teresa Jayne for organising a fashion show, with the proceeds being donated to the school. It was a very successful evening, and it was lovely to see so many people present. Many thanks to all who supported this event and also to all parents, friends, pupils, former pupils and one brave member of staff who modelled the dresses.
It was most encouraging and pleasing to read of the success of a former pupil. Ryan Astley recently made his début performance for Everton’s under 23 team. Not only was this in itself a great privilege, but Ryan was highly praised by Everton manager David Unsworth, who described Ryan’s performance against Sunderland as ‘stunning’. He was quoted as saying ‘He (Ryan Astley) showed character, ability and bravery” and was also identified as the best player on the pitch. Congratulations to Ryan and we shall follow his career with great interest.

We had some fantastic feedback for our open evening last night which we've been allowed to share. Thank you so much for these kind words and thank you to everyone that came along.

I attended, along with my 11 yr old son, your school open evening last night. Please express my thanks to all the staff involved. The whole experience was very upbeat, energetic and fairly informative. It’s great to come away with such a ‘feel good factor’ – particularly as Caereinion HS will be the most likely choice. My son is totally sold on science!

Can you pass on my congratulations to all the staff , sixformers and year 7/8 students involved in the open evening last night. I thought it was a lovely evening, promoted the school as a really friendly happy environment. The speeches were great, and the classroom activities were fun and enthusiastic, which was exactly what the kids needed to set them at ease, and get them excited about coming to the school. So, well done! It was good that our group going round was small, much smaller than other years, and Hywel did a great job of adding humor to the walkabout, which again helped the kids feel at ease. The teachers did great quizes and activities for the kids and it all went really well. Loved the pirates especially !
