Monday, November 13th

The second half term of the autumn term started with external exams for our Year 11 pupils. All Year 11 pupils sat two papers of the Numeracy GCSE and a number of pupils sat English Language. We trust that our pupils will be pleased with their results when they are announced in January.
This last week saw the publication of the Core Data Sets, a publication which confirms all GCSE results. We can proudly say that 70.6% of Caereinion pupils achieved 5 GCSE qualifications at C or above, including either English Language/Welsh Language (Mamiaith) and Maths. This result places us in the top 50% of similar schools. The results in the core subjects are all most promising, with a grade C or above gained by 82.4% in English, 87% in Welsh First Language, 82.4% in Science and 75.3% in either Maths or Numeracy. These are all most encouraging results and place us high on the Powys schools’ list.
Mr Gareth Griffiths and Year 10 Agriculture group had a most enjoyable time at Llysun farm on Friday. We are very grateful to the Tudor family for being so willing to welcome our pupils to their farm.
There have been several sporting victories. Congratulations to the small sided football team in Year 7 who became Powys champions on Thursday and to Year 9 who became runners up in their competition. Our under 16 netball team came third in the North Powys tournament.
It was pleasing to see so many parents of Year 7 and Year 12 students coming to school on Thursday evening to discuss students’ progress with their form tutors. I would also like to sincerely thank those of you who completed the questionnaires distributed on the evening.

Year 8 exams will move forward one day i.e exams originally planned for Monday , March 19th(English, History and ICT) will now take place on Tuesday and Tuesday’s exams (Biology) will now be on Wednesday March 21st.

  • Theatre Severn ‘Teechers’

Yr. 10 GCSE drama group enjoyed a rauscous rendition of ‘Teechers’ on Wednesday evening at Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury. Blackeyed Theatre put on a great display of its highly-acclaimed production of John Godber’s classic comedy about life at a struggling ‘sink school’ for Mr Nixon, an unsuspecting new drama teacher.  TEECHERS brings to life an array of terrifying teachers and hopeless pupils through the unique eyes of Salty, Gail and Hobby; three Year 11 students about to leave school for good.  Will Mr Nixon abandon his students for a green and pleasant Grammar school? Who puts the bounce in Miss Prime, the PE teacher? Will Mrs Parry ever find her Koko? And why does everyone smell of spring onions? Crammed full of unforgettable characters, political left-hooks and razor-sharp comedy, TEECHERS is more relevant today than ever, a modern classic with something vital to say about education for the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’.
