The week started for our Year 10 Agriculture pupils with a visit to the Winter Fair in Builth Wells. This has now become an annual event and we are grateful to Mr Gareth Griffiths for organising the trip and accompanying our pupils to the Fair. At the Winter Fair, two members of the group, namely Erin Jones and Elain Jones participated in the launch of the second Powys Careers Festival. The Careers Festival was launched by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Kirsty Williams AM. Our Sixth Form Art students welcomed the landscape artist, Matthew Wood, to their lessons during the week. The students derived great benefit from working with the artist and following the workshop all students produced an expressive oil landscape painting on board. There were numerous sporting activities during the week – the hockey team travelled to Newtown to meet Christ College, Brecon in the under 18 hockey final. They put on a worthy fight and were close runners-up. In the same manner, the Year 7 boys’ football team became Powys runners-up, as they played against Builth in the county finals. Caereinion was well represented in the Urdd Swimming Gala in Newtown on Wednesday and some of our pupils will be representing the county in the national Urdd Gala early in the new year. We now have the results of the Powys Swimming Competitions which were held on Friday, November 24th. Congratulations to the following Medi Lewis, Year 8 (2nd in the individual medley, 2nd Butterfly, 3rd Freestyle), Kira Jones, Year 8 (3rd Backstroke), Tom Griffiths, Year 9 (3rd Backstroke), Kelsie Webster, Year 8 (1st Breaststroke), Elain Owen, Year 7 (3rd Breaststroke), Cai Herdman, Year 10 (2nd Freestyle) and to the Year 7 and 8 girls’ relay team who came first.
This week we wish our Year 11 pupils well as they commence their mock GCSE examinations. Good wishes are also sent to those pupils who will be preparing during lunchtimes and after school for our Christmas concert. Tickets for the concert are now on sale in the school office. I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to purchase tickets.
